Final Homework Assignment: Eating Peace

Picture
This is the final short homework assignment. We didn't make it to 6, which was the maximum I allowed for. Got to 5. Not bad.

This one is simple and complicated, all at once. Here are the instructions:

Eating Peace Homework Assignment

See, it's easy. Food. Sharing. Peace. Really, the only lesson I have.

Visit Food Not Bombs London, just to deepen that lesson.

Fourth Homework Assignment: Hurdles

Picture
This is the most straightforward of the short homework assignments, and is due at the beginning of our meeting on Monday March 26th.

You have now read enough, seen enough and heard enough, and thought long enough, to come to a kind of preliminary conclusion about peace in the world, so here is the question:

Drawing on the readings, what do you see as the three most pressing obstacles to peace? Explain your choices briefly but clearly --- about a paragraph or two for each. Relate this discussion to what you have been reading in this course, the actual books and not the blog posts or things posted on the website. Play with the ideas in the books you've read.

This should be around 2 pages or so, double spaced. Focus on the problems, not on solutions. The first step is to ask yourself what the obstacles are. Solutions come later.

Third Homework Assignment: Words Matter

Picture
This is due at the beginning of class on March 5th.

Here we go again, more hippie shit. This time he wants us to read poetry. What next, dancing around a fire in the middle of the woods with goats?

A SPRING MORNING by Meng Hao-Jan
I awake light-hearted this morning of spring,
Everywhere round me the singing of birds --
But now I remember the night, the storm,
And I wonder how many blossoms were broken.

This really is a very simple exercise in reading and thinking about what you read. It won't take you too long, and you don't have to write a great deal, but what you do write needs to thoughtful and attentive. The link below has the instructions. Make sure you read them carefully and if you have any questions, I am only an email away.

Homework Assignment # 3: Resting on the River Instructions

These comments by Naomi Shihab Nye might help you get in the mood:

Second Homework Exercise: Daring to Heal

Picture
This is due at the beginning of class on Monday Feb 13th.

At our meeting on January 30th, I gave everyone there a small piece of red ribbon with a request to do something with that ribbon, and a sweet, on the night of Jan 31 into Feb 1. Don't worry if you missed that meeting, I have a present for those who were unable to be there.

That was the first part of this homework exercise. Now it is time for the second part.  A PDF copy of the instructions for the rest of this exercise can be found HERE.

Make sure you read first a few words about grades and grading under the to begin tab so you understand how your work will be "marked".

First Homework Exercise: Peace Underwear

Picture

This is due at the beginning of class on Monday Feb 6th.

Yep. You heard that right. This first homework assignment is about underwear, specifically about yours. The ones you are wearing right now. Don't lose them. At least for now. Pay attention to them.

A PDF copy of the instructions can be found HERE.

Make sure you read first a few words about grades and grading under the to begin tab so you understand how your work will be "marked".
